STMicroelectronics automotive MEMS sensor launch
Overview
STMicroelectronics has announced the mass production and launch of new integrated automotive safety sensors. These products combine multi-axis accelerometers and gyroscopes into a single package to support both passive safety, such as airbag deployment and rollover detection, and active safety functions, including vehicle stability control and radar beam stabilization.
This release represents the first set of mass-market products following the company’s acquisition of NXP’s automotive and industrial MEMS sensors business in early 2026. The sensors are designed to simplify system design for original equipment manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers through a scalable platform. To accommodate long-term automotive development cycles, the company has committed to guaranteeing product availability for at least 15 years. The devices comply with ISO 26262 safety standards and utilize a SafeSPI interface for monitoring data.
