Stork breeding thrives in České Budějovice and Žehušice
In Haklových Dvorech near České Budějovice, a stork family has successfully nested, with the first recorded breeding in 2021 and a breakthrough in 2025 when two chicks fledged. This year the pair produced two fledglings that were ringed by experts, marking a continued rise in local stork populations. Mayor Dagmar Škodová Parmová credited the community’s long‑term monitoring and support from the municipal transport company for the success.
Meanwhile, in the village of Žehušice in the Kutná Hora district, stork chicks have grown on a chimney to become virtually indistinguishable from their parents, attracting visitors who watch them through binoculars. The site has become a local attraction, highlighting the growing health of the regional stork colonies.
