Storm Rachel brings flooding and first snow to Western US

Post-tropical storm Rachel is moving inland across the Western United States, bringing heavy rainfall, forceful winds, and the risk of flash flooding from Southern California to Wyoming. The National Weather Service has placed much of Utah under a flood watch, warning of dangerous conditions near slickrock areas and recent burn scars.

The weather shift has also brought the season's first snowfall to Utah's mountains, including Park City Mountain and Big Cottonwood Canyon. Significant snow accumulations are forecast for the Cottonwood Canyons and the Uinta Mountains through the middle of the week, accompanied by freezing temperatures.
