Storms in Minas Gerais cause flooding and infrastructure damage
Severe storms and heavy rainfall across the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, have caused significant infrastructure damage and operational disruptions.
In Belo Horizonte, the Júlia Kubitschek Hospital experienced flooding in several areas, including a laboratory and outpatient clinics. Workers reported water leaking from ceilings, forcing staff to use bins to contain the flow and move equipment to prevent damage. The Sind-Saúde union noted that the flooding poses risks to patients and staff due to potential slips and equipment failure.
In Montes Claros, a storm destroyed parts of a wall and damaged the roof of the Secundino Tavares State School. Due to the safety risks and flooding at the site, the Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais (TRE-MG) relocated the voting site for 1,931 voters to the CEMEI São Norberto facility to ensure the continuity of the electoral process.
