Strait of Hormuz blockade collapses Iranian oil exports

A maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz has significantly disrupted Iranian oil exports, proving more effective than previous sanctions. While Iran utilized a shadow fleet and bypassed Western banking to maintain crude shipments, the physical blockade has severed the connection between buyers and sellers. Data indicates that Iranian crude and condensate loadings dropped from approximately 2 million barrels per day in March to between 220,000 and 255,000 barrels per day in August.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American forces have redirected 122 commercial vessels to enforce the blockade. In response, US President Donald Trump stated that further military strikes against Iran remain possible before the November midterm elections, though he predicted the conflict would end “very soon.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran is prepared to resist aggression, even if it escalates into a “doomsday war,” while maintaining that the country remains open to diplomacy through mediators.
