Strait of Hormuz shipping attacks kill two seafarers
Two separate attacks involving projectiles have targeted bulk carriers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in at least two crew casualties.
On August 17, the Liberia-flagged bulk carrier Minoan Dignity was struck by an unknown projectile during an outbound transit. The impact damaged the vessel's engine room and killed the chief engineer. The Omani Coast Guard is currently assisting the remaining crew, and no environmental damage has been reported. INTERCARGO confirmed the fatality and emphasized that seafarers are civilians who must not become targets in geopolitical conflicts.
A second attack occurred on August 15, when another bulk carrier was struck by an unidentified projectile. This incident damaged the vessel's starboard side and resulted in a crew casualty.
Reports indicate a pattern of strikes concentrated along the Omani corridor, a primary commercial transit lane. Since July 6, 16 of 18 recorded projectile strikes have occurred in this area.
