Streaming platforms secure rights to major live events

Major live entertainment and sporting events are increasingly shifting toward streaming platforms. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced that the Emmy Awards will move to Prime Video in September 2027 under a six-year agreement that will allow viewers to watch the ceremony for free without a subscription.

Additionally, the Oscars are scheduled to be broadcast via YouTube starting in 2029. In the sports sector, Disney+ will incorporate the broadcast of Super Bowl LXI in February 2027 alongside ESPN. This agreement covers the United States and more than 55 international markets, including various Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America.

Industry experts note that live events are highly attractive to streaming services because they gather large audiences simultaneously and help differentiate digital catalogs. For organizers, these platforms provide a way to reach audiences that primarily consume content online.
