Street Fighter film follows Ryu and Ken into M. Bison’s tournament
The upcoming Street Fighter film, directed by Kitao Sakurai, follows a narrative set in 1993. The story centers on Ryu (Andrew Koji), a former World Warrior champion who has abandoned fighting to run a soup stall due to a darkness within him. His former brother-in-arms, Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), has leveraged his skills for wealth.
Interpol agent Chun-Li (Callina Liang) seeks to infiltrate the inner circle of M. Bison (David Dastmalchian), the dictator of Shadaloo, to settle a score. To lure Ryu out of hiding, Bison organizes a second World Warrior Tournament in Metrolao. The film features an ensemble cast including Don Lee as Gouken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, and Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson as Balrog.
Critical reception is mixed. While the visual trailers have generated hype, some critiques suggest the film struggles with its creative direction. Reviewers have noted that the movie attempts to emulate a maximalist, campy aesthetic but may fall victim to formulaic dialogue and a lack of confidence in its visual storytelling.
