Stroke research highlights early rhythm control and regional support initiatives
A study published in the journal Neurology indicates that early rhythm control can reduce the risk of subsequent strokes and death by 44 percent in patients with atrial fibrillation following an ischemic stroke. Despite these findings, the analysis of 14,355 hospitalized patients revealed that only 2 percent received early rhythm intervention within eight weeks of their stroke. Methods used in the small group of treated patients included medication, catheter ablation, and electrical cardioversion.
In Heidelberg, Germany, the Stroke Network is organizing an information event for World Stroke Day on October 29, 2026. The network, which includes clinics, doctors, and therapists, aims to improve prevention and care for stroke patients and their families in the Rhine-Neckar region. The event will feature experts in rehabilitation, social work, and nursing to provide guidance on post-clinical care and support services.
