Strong earthquakes shake Chiapas and Oaxaca regions of Mexico

On Monday, August 3, a series of tremors struck the Pacific coast of Mexico, with the strongest recorded at magnitude 4.4 located about 198 km southwest of Mapastepec in Chiapas, followed by another 4.4 event near Huixtla. Additional quakes of magnitude 4.2 and 4.0 were also reported in the same area, and moderate‑size movements (3.6‑3.1) were felt in Oaxaca and Guerrero.

The next day, August 4, three separate earthquakes were felt in the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca. Two magnitude‑4.5 quakes occurred southwest of Mapastepec, Chiapas, and a magnitude‑4.1 event struck southwest of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, all at a depth of about 10 km. No injuries or damage were reported, and authorities urged residents to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.
