Strumyani flood recovery: Water supply restored but remains undrinkable

The municipality of Strumyani is managing the aftermath of a severe flood that left the area covered in mud, debris, trees, and stones. While the main water supply line has been repaired, officials warn that the water remains unfit for drinking and domestic use. To address this, 9 tons of drinking water from the State Reserve and bottled water from the Bulgarian Red Cross have been deployed, alongside donations for volunteers.

Mayor Emil Iliev announced that the state of emergency is expected to be extended for another month by order of the regional governor. Although 33 households were significantly affected by flooding in their ground floors, the water has been drained and electricity has been restored.

Recovery efforts are ongoing with assistance from the military, the fire service, Pirin National Park employees, and volunteers from the Blagoevgrad region. The municipality has issued a call for more volunteers to assist with the heavy physical labor required for cleaning and restoration.
