Student found dead on Xalapa-Veracruz highway

Miguel Antonio Espinoza Vega, a 23-year-old student at the Escuela Normal Superior Veracruzana (ENSV) ‘Dr. Manuel Suárez Trujillo’, was found dead on the Xalapa-Veracruz highway in the municipality of Emiliano Zapata.

Espinoza Vega had been reported missing since August 31, after being last seen in the locality of Cerro Gordo. His body was discovered by motorists near the La Bandera area. Preliminary reports suggest the student may have been walking toward the highway after separating from a group of acquaintances when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled the scene.

Paramedics confirmed the death due to severe head trauma. The State Prosecutor's Office (FGE) and State Police secured the area for forensic investigation. The student's family formally identified him at the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo). The academic community at ENSV has expressed condolences and called for a thorough investigation to clarify the circumstances of his death.
