Student movement proposes free textbooks and anti-corruption reforms in Serbia
The student movement 'Studentsi pobeđuju' (Students Win) has introduced an 11-point plan aimed at systemic reforms in Serbia. A central pillar of the proposal is the provision of free textbooks for all primary and secondary school students, regardless of their place of residence. Ana Dimitrijević, a candidate for the list, stated that the goal is to treat education as a public good and ensure that basic educational costs are not shifted onto families. The proposal suggests a new model where the state determines maximum prices and finances basic textbooks, while schools select them based on professional assessments.
The broader 11-point plan also includes measures to combat corruption, such as the formation of a special prosecutorial police force to investigate crimes without political obstruction. Other proposed actions include the dismissal of police officers who violated the law, the implementation of a law on the origin of property, and lustration of public officials. The movement is currently touring Serbia to present and collect signatures for this plan, with recent activities focused on southern regions including Niš.
