Student recreates Switzerland at 1:1 scale in Minecraft

A 22-year-old student from ETH Zurich, known in-game as Manifold, has completed a highly detailed, 1:1 scale digital reconstruction of Switzerland within Minecraft. The project covers approximately 41,285 square kilometers.

To achieve high precision, the student utilized public geological data provided by Swisstopo, the Federal Office of Topography. By setting a scale where one Minecraft block equals one meter in the real world, the digital landscape accurately reflects Swiss mountains and valleys. The project features a comparison tool on the Blocks website, allowing users to view real aerial photography alongside the Minecraft recreation.

While much of the map is available via subscription, the student has released the entire Jungfrau-Aletsch region, a UNESCO World Heritage site, for free.
