Minecraft reconstruction of Switzerland
Overview
A 22-year-old student from ETH Zurich, known as Manifold, has completed a 1:1 scale digital reconstruction of Switzerland within Minecraft. The project covers approximately 41,285 square kilometers, utilizing official geodata from Swisstopo to ensure topographical accuracy.
By using the Cubic Chunks mod to bypass vertical limits, the recreation includes detailed representations of the Alpine landscape, such as the Matterhorn and the Dufourspitze. The project features a comparison tool that allows users to view real aerial photography alongside the digital terrain. While the full map is offered via early access for a fee, a free version covering the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage site is available for testing.
