Students at Hecelchakán Rural Normal School report harassment and threats
Eighteen students from the Justo Sierra Méndez Rural Normal School in Hecelchakán, Campeche, have filed public complaints alleging harassment, intimidation, threats, and mistreatment. The complainants accuse members of the Student Council and specific internal groups, including individuals identified by nicknames such as ‘El Nojoch’ and ‘el Chamaco Venenito’, of orchestrating these actions.
The students report that these practices, often referred to as ‘novatadas’ (hazing), target new students through humiliating and violent situations, leading to several desertions. Additionally, there are allegations that ‘external students’ were threatened with the withholding of benefits such as scholarships and supplies, and that some of these items may have been sold illegally outside the institution. The victims are calling for immediate intervention from educational authorities and human rights organizations.
