Students in Greece engage in environmental protection initiatives

Students and educators in Greece have participated in various environmental initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and ecological awareness.

In Chalkida, students and teachers from the Municipality of Chalkidiki organized a tree-planting activity along the banks of the Lelantos River. This action was coordinated by the Afraiti Owned Forest Forestry Cooperative in collaboration with the Evia Volunteer Nursery to foster environmental consciousness among the youth.

On the island of Halki, the initiative ‘Every day, a cleaner Halki!’ was organized by the Municipality of Halki and the AMKE ‘Kinima’, funded by the Green Fund. Participants, including students and residents, conducted cleaning activities around the island, including the Pontamos beach and the area near the Temple of Agia Thekla. The project also explores circular economy concepts, such as repurposing collected seaweed into biodegradable material for sunglasses frames, supported by the European CAROUSEL program. Halki is recognized as the first GR-eco Island in Greece, focusing on clean energy and energy autonomy.
