Sturgeon Moon appears over Trail and Sunningdale

The Sturgeon Moon, the final full moon of meteorological summer, appeared over Trail and the mountains in Sunningdale recently. The moon reached peak fullness at 9:18 p.m. Pacific time on August 27.

The name Sturgeon Moon originates from traditions noting that giant lake sturgeon were easily caught in the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain during this season. Other cultural names for the August moon include the Cree Flying Up Moon, the Corn Moon, the Ricing Moon, and the Tlingit Mountain Shadows Moon.
