Stuttgart building fire forces evacuations, one child hospitalized

On Sunday afternoon, a basement fire broke out in a residential and commercial building on Heusteigstraße in Stuttgart‑South. Dense smoke filled the stairwells, blocking escape routes. Firefighters from four stations deployed two pump trucks, special units and breathing‑apparatus teams, ventilated the structure with high‑capacity fans and carried out measurements for harmful substances.

Five residents were evacuated, some using escape hoods; one person, a child, was taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation, while the others were treated on‑site. Parts of the basement were cleared to locate possible hot spots. The fire caused a power cut to the affected buildings and adjacent properties, rendering one of the two structures uninhabitable and forcing residents to relocate. Traffic on Filderstraße was halted, interrupting bus services, before the scene was handed over to police for an investigation into the cause.
