STVR marks 100‑year radio anniversary amidst internal criticism

To celebrate the centenary of regular radio broadcasting in Slovakia, STVR will air a special programme on Monday 3 August 2026 that links television and radio. The STV channel will premiere a documentary on pioneer Jozef Murgaš and feature archival and contemporary shows recalling the history of Slovak radio, while Radio Slovensko, Radio Regina, Radio FM, Radio Devín and Radio Slovakia International will present interviews, historic recordings and music from the past hundred years.

At the same time, STVR’s program director Peter Begányi told Mediálne that the broadcaster has long been in a state of stagnation, lacking a clear vision and systematic development of original content. He said the budget does not allow a significant increase in ambitious series or films, and that the organisation must confront the need for new strategies and more original productions.
