Slovakia public broadcaster centenary celebration

Overview

In late July 2026, Slovakia’s public broadcaster STVR announced a series of events to mark the 100th anniversary of regular radio broadcasting. The broadcaster planned a special programme on 3 August linking television and radio, and a documentary on radio pioneer Jozef Murgaš. At the same time, STVR’s program director warned of internal stagnation, limited budgets and a need for new strategies and original productions.

On 3 August, STVR carried out the commemoration with an exhibition titled “100/70” in its Bratislava gallery, showcasing a century of radio and seven decades of television through historic equipment, costumes and multilingual audio guides. A special radio programme, “Storočie s Vami”, aired, and the general director highlighted public media’s role in preserving collective memory. The events combined the announced programming with the exhibition, while the earlier criticism of organisational stagnation remained a backdrop to the celebration.
