Heavy rain on the night of 6‑7 August 2026 triggered widespread flooding and mudslides across Salzburg and Tirol. Rivers overflowed, most notably the Tobersbach in Uttendorf, which breached its banks, inundating streets, destroying bridges and forcing the evacuation of residents.

Mudslides (locally called Muren) struck the Zillertal, Tux, Brandberg, Marchklamm, Finkenberg and the Bad Gastein valley, destroying five bridges in Bad Gastein and damaging several others. Eleven hikers were rescued by police helicopter from a mountain hut in Bad Gastein, and additional hikers were stranded on both sides of the Tobersbach.

Fire services deployed 79 operations involving 675 personnel from 32 fire brigades, conducting water pumping, debris removal, road clearance and even fighting a forest fire. An orange weather warning had been issued for the Tiroler Unterland on the morning of 7 August. No injuries were reported despite the extensive property and infrastructure damage.
