Suame Interchange Phase 2 expected to open by October 2026

Phase 2 of the Suame Interchange project in Kumasi is approximately 87 per cent complete and is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of October 2026. Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza announced the timeline following an inspection of the site, which is being executed by Rango Construction Company Limited.

Phase 2 includes three overpasses at the Anomangye, Magazine New Road, and Abusuakruwa junctions. The Abusuakruwa junction is nearly finished at 98.25 per cent completion. Additionally, the project involves widening the Offinso Road (N10) into a two-by-three-lane dual carriageway, which is currently 77 per cent complete, and the construction of local roads.

The project, originally awarded to Spain’s Grupo Dizmar and Ghana’s Rango Construction Limited for approximately $257 million, has faced previous delays due to national debt issues affecting loan drawdowns, the relocation of water pipelines, and compensation payments to residents. The completion of Phase 2 is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the Kumasi metropolis and facilitate work on the interchange’s first phase.
