Sub-Saharan Africa economic growth projected to slow in 2026
Sub-Saharan Africa is facing a slight slowdown in economic growth. Following a strong 2025 with 4.5% growth, the regional growth rate is projected to decrease by 0.2 percentage points to 4.3% in 2026, largely due to the impact of the war in the Middle East.
Within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), economic activity remains resilient. According to the BCEAO, inflation is currently controlled, and the price index for major imported food products decreased by 1.6% in June 2026. However, the index for exported commodities fell by 4.8%, highlighting the region's vulnerability to international market fluctuations. Internal growth is being driven by the construction and public works, financial services, and trade sectors.
