Subaru Announces New Sports Vehicle Division as Crosstrek e-BOXER Orders Cease

Subaru has created a dedicated Sports Vehicle Planning Office within its Product Innovation Division to focus on developing future performance cars. The new team will use digital engineering tools to shorten development cycles and will continue offering manual transmissions. The company confirmed three STI‑engineered models are already under development, aiming to preserve Subaru’s rally‑inspired heritage while adapting to a rapidly evolving market.

In a separate announcement, Subaru said it will stop accepting new orders for the current Crosstrek model and its 2.0 L e‑BOXER mild‑hybrid powertrain as of 14 September 2026. The e‑BOXER variant will be discontinued, while the Strong Hybrid S:HEV lineup will remain in production. Existing dealer inventory will still be sold after the order cutoff, and the move is framed as a shift toward stronger hybrid offerings.
