Subvocal unveils silent speech glasses using radio waves
The US startup Subvocal has announced the development of specialized glasses designed to convert silent mouth movements into text. The device uses weak radio waves to contactlessly measure the movements of the tongue, jaw, and palate, bypassing the need for microphones or cameras.
According to the company, the technology can achieve input speeds exceeding 200 words per minute with a word accuracy rate between 85% and 92% after a brief calibration period. The project, which originated at a Stanford University hackathon, aims to allow users to interact with AI systems in public or professional settings without speaking aloud.
Subvocal has secured $1.3 million in funding from Y Combinator and Afore Capital. Pre-orders have been launched with early bird pricing set at $499, while the regular price is listed at $699. The company plans to begin its first deliveries in early 2027.
