Subvocal smart glasses development

Overview

San Francisco based startup Subvocal has announced the development of smart glasses designed to transcribe silent lip and mouth movements into text. The technology utilizes low power radio waves to contactlessly measure the movements of the tongue, jaw, and palate, bypassing the need for cameras or microphones.

According to the company, the device can achieve input speeds exceeding 200 words per minute with an accuracy rate between 85% and 92% following a calibration period. The project, which emerged from a Y Combinator program and a Stanford University hackathon, aims to enable users to interact with AI assistants or computers without speaking aloud.

Subvocal has secured 1.3 million dollars in funding from Y Combinator and Afore Capital. Pre-orders have opened in the United States with early bird pricing at 499 dollars and a standard retail price of 699 dollars. The company expects to begin deliveries in early 2027.
