Sudan aid convoys attacked in South Kordofan

An aerial attack and ground assault targeting United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) aid convoys in Sudan's South Kordofan state have resulted in casualties and the destruction of essential supplies.

The attacks occurred near the city of Dilling as trucks were traveling toward Kadugli. One report indicates an airstrike struck two trucks carrying 50 tons of food intended for tens of thousands of residents. Another report, citing the Sudan Doctors Network, notes that a convoy was targeted, resulting in one death and two injuries among truck drivers.

The Sudan Doctors Network described the incident as part of a recurring pattern of attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against international humanitarian convoys, calling such actions violations of international humanitarian law. The WFP characterized the attacks as ‘unacceptable’ and called for an immediate end to such targeting.

The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese armed forces and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has caused a massive humanitarian crisis, with over 200,000 deaths and the displacement of more than 12 million people. Recent months have seen an increase in drone strikes, contributing to significant civilian casualties.
