Sudan and Syria officials hold economic talks in Bangkok

On the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, officials from Sudan and Syria held separate discussions regarding economic stability and investment.

Sudanese Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim Mohammed, met with George Moreira da Silva, Executive Director of UNOPS. The discussions focused on protecting Sudan's agricultural season and ensuring food security amidst challenges such as low rainfall and rising costs for fuel and fertilizers. The meeting also addressed the impact of regional tensions and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz on energy and fertilizer supplies.

Meanwhile, Syrian Minister of Finance Mohammad Yasser Bernia met with a delegation from Bank of America to discuss financing opportunities for investment projects in Syria. The talks covered potential funding for large-scale private sector projects, public-private partnerships, and reconstruction efforts. The Bank of America delegation expressed interest in providing consultancy for debt market development and exploring infrastructure project financing.
