Sudanese army repels RSF attacks near El-Obeid
Intense fighting has erupted in North Kordofan as the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied forces claim to have repelled major attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) near El-Obeid.
Military sources report that government forces successfully pushed back RSF assaults in the Jabal Hashaba and Umm Arda areas southwest of El-Obeid. The army also reported shooting down a strategic RSF drone over Jabra al-Sheikh and conducting an ambush in Al-Ayara that destroyed combat vehicles and resulted in significant RSF casualties.
The escalating violence has triggered new waves of displacement, with civilians fleeing on foot toward El-Obeid in dire humanitarian conditions. Amid the clashes, Sudanese Sovereignty Council head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan stated that while the military is determined to defeat the RSF, it remains open to genuine peace initiatives, provided the paramilitary group disarms and returns to civilian life.
