Sudan army drone strike kills 35 at North Darfur customary court
Sudanese Armed Forces drones hit the customary court in the village of Garra al‑Zawaya, North Darfur, on a Sunday, killing at least 35 people and wounding several others. Civilians had gathered to attend local hearings, and the session was held under a tree with community leaders present. Among the dead were four tribal leaders and two Rapid Support Forces commanders.
The village is controlled by the Rapid Support Forces. The strike damaged the court building. The conflict, which began in April 2023 between RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and army chief Abdel Fattah al‑Burhan, has displaced millions and created what the United Nations describes as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. UN investigators say more than 1,000 civilians have been killed by drone strikes in the first five months of the year, and the war has produced hallmarks of genocide in Darfur.
