Sudan conflict intensifies with RSF advances and army reinforcements

The conflict in Sudan continues to escalate as the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies, the SPLM-N, seize military bases in Blue Nile state. This fighting has caused nearly 20,000 people to flee their homes in just two days, creating dire humanitarian conditions according to the Geissan Emergency Room.

In response to the RSF's seizure of the Bakori and Surkum bases, the Sudanese army has deployed an elite brigade to the Bakori operational axis to reinforce existing forces and boost combat capabilities. This military movement follows reports of RSF attacks in the region and the downing of a strategic drone that reportedly crossed the border from Ethiopia.

Simultaneously, the Sudanese army has seen a wave of defections from the RSF. A group of 200 fighters, led by Abu Bakr Hamouda Dahloop, commander of the special missions intelligence division in North Kordofan, recently defected to the army with their equipment. This follows several other significant defections involving hundreds of fighters and multiple commanders in recent weeks.
