Sudan displacement rises in Blue Nile and North Darfur

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports significant new displacements in Sudan due to deteriorating security conditions in Blue Nile State and North Darfur.

In Blue Nile State, over 3,300 people fled several villages in the Qaisan locality following insecurity on September 7, while another 685 individuals from Bakuri village moved toward Al-Rosieres. The region faces military escalations involving the Sudanese Army, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement–North.

In North Darfur, approximately 1,275 people were displaced from the Ambra locality between September 3 and September 6. Many of these displaced persons have crossed the border into Chad. Human rights organizations have reported that villages and markets in the Ambra area have been subject to attacks, looting, and arson, with allegations directed at the RSF.

These movements occur amidst a broader conflict between the Sudanese Army and the RSF that began in April 2023, which has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of nearly 13 million people.
