Sudan drone strike kills nine civilians, injures 14 in North Kordofan
A drone strike on Wednesday in the village of Al‑Jamama, North Kordofan state, Sudan killed nine civilians and wounded 14. A medical source told AFP the attack was carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the paramilitary group fighting the Sudanese army.
RSF commander General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo said the forces would no longer restrain their fighters, raising concerns about further attacks on civilians. The rights group Emergency Lawyers documented RSF attacks, looting and vandalism in the western part of North Kordofan.
The incident occurs amid the fourth year of Sudan’s war, which has displaced millions. The United Nations says more than 1,000 people have been killed by unmanned aerial vehicle strikes in Kordofan since the start of the year, and UNICEF reported at least 23 child deaths in North Kordofan over the past two months. The Sudanese army recently reclaimed a strategic road to Khartoum after operations in the region.
