Sudan market drone strike kills at least 11 civilians

A drone strike hit the central market of Abu Zaiema in the Northern Kordofan region of Sudan, killing at least 11 people and wounding dozens. Witnesses said the attack also damaged a fuel station in Al-Umbait, injuring four more.

The market is in an area controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Neither the Sudanese army nor the RSF claimed responsibility. Human‑rights group Emergency Lawyers noted similar drone attacks on villages and vehicles in recent days. The United Nations estimates that drones have killed about 880 civilians in Sudan between January and April, contributing to a war that has entered its fourth year, caused over 200,000 deaths, and created what the UN calls the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
