Sudan Rapid Support Forces accused of crimes against humanity in El‑Fasher

Amnesty International’s new report documents that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan committed crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing during its campaign to seize El Fasher in North Darfur between early 2024 and October 2025. The dossier lists murder, forcible transfer, imprisonment, torture, rape, sexual slavery, enslavement, extermination and persecution, with hundreds of thousands of children displaced, many orphaned, and civilians of the Zaghawa ethnic group targeted.

The report quotes Amnesty Secretary‑General Agnès Callamard: “The war in Sudan is a war on civilians… It is a stain on the conscience of humanity.” It calls for an immediate nationwide ceasefire and the deployment of an adequately resourced international force to protect civilians. The RSF’s siege of El Fasher followed a broader pattern of attacks on strategic towns such as el‑Obeid and on civilian infrastructure, worsening a humanitarian crisis that has displaced up to 14.5 million people across Sudan.

Amnesty interviewed 247 witnesses, analyzed satellite imagery and videos, and concluded that the RSF’s actions meet the legal definitions of crimes against humanity and may constitute genocide.
