Sudan says it will join sincere initiatives to end proxy war

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddine Salem told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva that the government is prepared to participate in "sincere initiatives" aimed at ending the proxy war that has raged since April 2023. He said any effort must follow the roadmap presented by Sovereign Council President Abdel Fattah al‑Burhan on 10 March 2025 and the plan submitted by Prime Minister Kamil Idris to the UN Security Council on 22 September 2025. The roadmap calls for dismantling the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), disarming combatants, implementing security measures, declaring a cease‑fire and launching a Sudan‑led political process, with international support welcomed. Salem also reiterated the request that the RSF be designated a terrorist group and that nations stop supplying them with advanced weapons and drones, after the UN warned that drone attacks in Kordofan killed at least 880 civilians between January and April 2026.
