Sudan War: US Imposes Sanctions as Sudanese Foreign Ministry Denies Rejection Claim

The U.S. Department of State announced sanctions on eight individuals and entities that supply weapons, explosives and foreign fighters to both the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, saying their support prolongs the conflict and fuels a severe humanitarian crisis. The sanctions package also includes broader measures under the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control Act, restricting loans, aid, technical assistance and exports to Sudan and banning the Sudanese state airline from operating in the United States.

In response to remarks by U.S. adviser Masad Pauls indicating that Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council had rejected a peace paper, Sudan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement rejecting the claim as inaccurate. The ministry affirmed that the government has engaged constructively with all peace initiatives, referenced the Jeddah Declaration of May 11 2023 and a Dec 22 2025 UN Security Council initiative, and called for an end to external support for the Rapid Support Forces, urging realistic international backing for a genuine peace process.
