Sudanese Armed Forces launch major offensive in North Kordofan

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), supported by allied groups and former Darfur rebel fighters, have launched a major ground offensive in North Kordofan State. The operation aims to eliminate remaining Rapid Support Forces (RSF) strongholds in villages and smaller towns following the army's recent capture of major urban centers and the reopening of the road between El Obeid and the Khartoum region.

Fighting has intensified in Al-Sheikan Locality, west of El Obeid, and in Sodari Locality. The military reported capturing several settlements, including Kajmar, Sharshar, and Al-Baniya Al-Kurayniya, during Thursday's operations.

Military analysts suggest that control of the Sodari area is strategically critical, as it serves as a pivotal node that could provide a gateway for SAF forces to access regions bordering Darfur. The success of this offensive may determine whether the SAF can transition from defensive area-clearing to permanently securing and holding territory in the Kordofan region.
