Sudanese Army seizes strategic sites in Kordofan

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have reportedly made significant territorial gains in the Kordofan region, seizing strategic locations in both North and South Kordofan following clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In South Kordofan, military sources indicate that the SAF and allied forces captured the areas of Al-Farshaya and Al-Mamsouka. These locations are critical as they sit on the road connecting Al-Ubayyid, the capital of North Kordofan, to Al-Dallang in South Kordofan. Additionally, the army established control over Sharshar, situated northwest of the strategic city of Bara in North Kordofan.

Soldiers have shared video footage on social media platforms intended to document the control of these areas, with allied forces also claiming to have captured several RSF members in Sharshar. This follows a trend of territorial expansion by the SAF in North Kordofan that began in late July 2026, including the recovery of Bara and the securing of the national road linking Bara to Omdurman.

The ongoing conflict between the SAF and RSF has persisted across the three Kordofan states since October 2025. Since the war began in April 2023, tens of thousands have been killed and approximately 13 million people have been displaced, according to United Nations estimates.
