Sudanese Army and TASIS claim opposing outcomes in Blue Nile fighting

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding recent combat in the Al-Baraka area of Sudan’s Blue Nile state. The Sudanese army’s Fourth Infantry Division announced it successfully repelled an offensive launched by an alliance of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Joseph Touka.

The military stated that its forces inflicted heavy casualties and destroyed multiple vehicles, including the seizure of 15 combat vehicles and the destruction of five others. The army maintains that the operation prevented the alliance from advancing toward its positions in the Kurmuk district.

Conversely, the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) claimed it captured the strategically important Al-Baraka military base and established full control over the area near the Ethiopian border. TASIS reported seizing weapons, ammunition, and military vehicles, while alleging that hundreds of military personnel and foreign fighters were killed during the operation.

Fighting in the Blue Nile region has intensified recently as both sides vie for control of vital routes and territories. Neither side’s accounts of the specific casualties or territorial control have been independently verified.
