Sudanese military rejects Ethiopian claims of supporting armed opposition

The Sudanese Armed Forces have rejected allegations made by the Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force regarding Sudan’s support for Ethiopian armed opposition groups. The Sudanese military described these claims as “baseless.”

In a statement, the Sudanese military leadership asserted they possess information and facts indicating that Ethiopia continues to support the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). They alleged that Ethiopian territory is being used for military activities, including training, supplies, and the operation of strategic and suicide drones.

Sudan emphasized its commitment to international law and the principles of good neighborliness, stating it does not interfere in the internal affairs of other nations. However, the military warned it would not allow its sovereignty or national security to be compromised. The Sudanese authorities called on Ethiopia to exercise “accuracy and responsibility” and to utilize official channels and dialogue to maintain regional stability.

This diplomatic tension follows recent escalations in Ethiopia, including fighting between Tigray forces and federal troops near the Sudanese border. Reports indicate Tigray forces have recently seized control of three airports previously held by the federal government.
