Sudan-Ethiopia border and diplomatic tensions

Sudan is experiencing heightened diplomatic and military tensions with Ethiopia alongside internal political friction. Initially, Sudanese deputy leader Malik Agar stated that Khartoum did not seek military confrontation with Ethiopia, despite allegations from Lt. Gen. Yasser al-Atta that Ethiopia permitted the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to conduct drone operations from Ethiopian territory. Domestically, the Sudanese Communist Party rejected the “Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue” initiative led by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, arguing that political talks are ineffective while military operations continue.

Relations between the two nations escalated as the Sudanese military officially rejected Ethiopian claims that Sudan supports Ethiopian armed opposition groups, labeling such accusations “baseless.” In response, the Sudanese military asserted that Ethiopia continues to support the RSF by providing territory for training, supplies, and the operation of strategic and suicide drones. While Sudan expressed a commitment to international law and “good neighborliness,” it warned that its sovereignty and national security would not be compromised, calling on Ethiopia to use official channels to maintain stability.
