Sudanese military shoots down drone in Blue Nile State

The Sudanese Armed Forces announced on Sunday, September 13, 2026, that they shot down a strategic drone near the Balang garrison in the Blue Nile State. The incident occurred in the eastern sector of the province, approximately 130 kilometers southeast of Ad-Damazin.

Reports regarding the drone's origin vary. One account states the aircraft entered airspace from the Ethiopian border, a move Sudanese authorities suggest is facilitated by Ethiopia, despite Addis Ababa's denials of such claims. Another report identifies the drone as belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which allegedly launched the drone attack following a Sudanese military operation to secure Mount Kadm.

The military's Fourth Infantry Division reported that the recent operations in the region resulted in significant losses for opposing forces, including the seizure of 17 vehicles and the destruction of five combat vehicles. These maneuvers are part of an effort to regain control over strategic areas near the Ethiopian border, including Al-Karmak and Qaisan.
