Sudanese RSF unit defects to join the national army

A unit of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has defected to join the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), according to official reports. The group, led by Al-Tayeb Al-Wahido (also known as Al-Tayeb Al-Wahido), was formally received in Omdurman by leaders from the military and the Sudanese Intelligence Service.

Al-Wahido stated that his decision to defect was driven by the tragedies he witnessed within the RSF ranks. He accompanied his group, which reportedly included 50 soldiers and five combat vehicles, and called on remaining RSF members to reconsider their positions, stating, “there is no cause worth continuing the fight.”

This defection follows a series of similar incidents. In August, Sudanese authorities reported multiple defections, including a group of 21 leaders and 270 members, as well as another group involving four commanders and 318 personnel. Recent high-profile defectors include political advisor Fares Al-Nour and military leaders Al-Nour Ahmed Adam and Ali Rizqallah. These shifts occur amidst ongoing conflict in regions such as Darfur and Kordofan, which has contributed to a massive humanitarian crisis and the displacement of millions.
