Deputy Secretary‑General Amina Mohammed warned the UN Security Council that the war in Sudan, now in its 1,210th day, has pushed more than 8 million school‑age children out of the classroom and damaged or destroyed nearly three‑quarters of schools in Darfur. The UN has recorded over 67 attacks on schools and 154 instances of schools being used for military purposes since 2024, while more than half of Sudan’s teachers are unpaid.

India’s UN counsellor Eldos Mathew Punnoose called for strict accountability for parties targeting educational infrastructure, noting a 57 % rise in school attacks. Save the Children estimates that 15 million children need urgent aid, with 6.5 million internally displaced and roughly 19 million out of school – about one in three Sudanese children. Severe food insecurity, acute malnutrition affecting nearly 4 million under‑fives, and famine risk have been reported.

In neighboring Chad, MSF documented a Global Acute Malnutrition rate above 37 % among Sudanese refugees at the Adémour transit site, highlighting the broader humanitarian emergency triggered by the conflict.
