Sudan's genocide crisis ignored as humanitarian disaster worsens

The war between Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has entered its third year, with the United Nations describing the situation as the world's worst humanitarian crisis. Experts say the conflict displays the hallmarks of genocide, citing systematic village sieges, widespread sexual violence and targeted ethnic killings.

Around 34 million Sudanese – roughly 72 % of the population – now need humanitarian assistance. Food insecurity threatens 26 million people, famine is imminent in parts of Darfur, more than eight million children are out of school and up to 90 % of health facilities are closed. Refugees fleeing the fighting are being moved from the Pamir camp in South Sudan to the transit camp at Yida, while journalists report that travel beyond Port Sudan requires a military escort, limiting on‑the‑ground reporting.

The coverage highlights the global neglect of Sudan's plight, as attention remains focused on other conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
