Sudan's White City faces cholera and hunger crisis

Plan International warned that hundreds of thousands of civilians in White (Al‑Abyad) city, North Kordofan, Sudan are confronting a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian emergency. The city, now a refuge for tens of thousands fleeing fighting in Kordofan and Darfur, is experiencing a severe cholera outbreak alongside acute food and clean‑water shortages. Overcrowded displacement sites have strained health facilities, leaving many without adequate medical care.

Children are the most affected, facing heightened risks of disease, malnutrition, loss of education, gender‑based violence and possible forced recruitment. Humanitarian agencies report difficulty delivering aid as supplies dwindle and funding gaps widen. The organization called for immediate, unrestricted humanitarian assistance, expanded water‑sanitation services, and intensified health interventions to contain cholera and protect vulnerable populations.
