Sudene supports new digital platform for smart city services in Northeast Brazil

A new digital platform, ‘Cidades Inteligentes na Palma da Mão’, has been launched to improve access to public services in municipalities within the Sudene (Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste) jurisdiction. Developed by the University of Pernambuco (UPE) with institutional and financial support from Sudene, the tool includes web and mobile versions designed to connect citizens with municipal administrations.

The project is currently being implemented in the Pernambuco municipalities of São Lourenço da Mata and Carnaíba, with plans to adapt the technology for other cities in the Northeast region. The platform allows residents to consult public services, locate municipal facilities, submit digital requests, report occurrences, and track the progress of their petitions through protocols.

Beyond citizen convenience, the system converts resident requests into structured, georeferenced data. This enables municipal managers to visualize demands across different sectors, identify specific needs, and utilize data-driven insights for urban planning and decision-making.
