Sugar consumption impairs white blood cell function

Research indicates that high sugar consumption can significantly impair immune function. Studies show that white blood cells may perform up to 50% less effectively for several hours following a spike in blood glucose levels. Additionally, high sugar intake can block the cellular absorption of Vitamin C.

To support immune health, experts emphasize the importance of dietary fiber, Vitamin C, and zinc. Maintaining gut health is particularly critical, as up to 70% of immune cells are located in the digestive tract. While the World Health Organization recommends a maximum of 25g of sugar per day for adults, many individuals consume significantly higher amounts. Improvements in immune response can be observed within two to eight weeks of reducing sugar intake.
